Insurance Claims Handling Basics

In almost every instance, an Insurance Claim involves the potential, or actual occurrence of loss to someone.  These situations can evoke strong sentiments and emotions and, as an Agent, your role may change from one of being a trusted advisor, to someone who can provide support and guidance during a challenging time. It is incumbent upon every Agent to have a good foundation of the Claims Process, the key legal concepts and terminology related to Claims, and a familiarity with the roles and responsibilities of the parties involved in Claims.

This course is designed to provide Maryland Licensed Insurance agents with a broad overview and introduction to Insurance Claims and the Claims Management Process. After completing this course, you will have a good foundation and understanding of Claims processes and practices, the parties involved, and key terminology and legal concepts related to Claims. You and your customers will benefit greatly from your ability to provide direction and support as well as help manage customer expectations during an often challenging and stressful event.

  • Overview of Company Operations and Insurance Fundamentals
  • General Policy Provisions
  • Legal Concepts Related to Claims
