Hawaii Approved Provider Number: 403226
The State of Hawaii has a credit allocation priority list for those licensed in multiple license type. Please see HI CE Priority List for additional information on the distribution priority for any excess rules/ethics credits earned.
All of our Hawaii Insurance Continuing Education courses are delivered in electronic format and can be viewed and completed on any mobile device. This includes chapter quizzes and final exams which are scored immediately upon completion. Each chapter is followed by a short chapter quiz which must be passed with a score of 70% or better in order to proceed to the next chapter. Upon completion of all chapter quizzes, you will be presented with the Final Exam which requires a passing grade of 70%. All quizzes and the Final Exam can be taken as many times as necessary until you pass. You have up to one year from the course purchase date to complete your courses.
State regulations require each Final Exam to be monitored by a Disinterested 3rd Party. A Disinterested 3rd Party is an individual over the age of 18 who is not: a family member, relative or dependent, employer or supervisor, employee or subordinate, partner or joint venture co-owner, or for anyone in whom the Monitor has an economic or other interest in assuring the successful outcome of the examination. Co-worker monitors must not be above or below in the student’s line of supervision.
Prior to the scoring of each Final Exam The Disinterested 3rd Party will be required to sign in by typing his or her name in the fields provided.
Upon successful passage of each Final Exam your credit hours earned will be reported directly to your State regulator. The date and time of completion of your course is based on the specific time zone in which you completed the course.
Successfully completing a course will earn you a Certificate of Completion. Certificates of completion are immediately available on the My Courses page. Simply locate the completed final exam and click on the certificate icon found near the right side of the page. Please check all the information displayed on your certificate for accuracy. Inaccuracies on your certificate could represent inaccuracies in your BetterCE profile which could lead to reporting delays. If you feel your certificate is inaccurate in any way, please contact the BetterCE support team at support@betterce.info or call us at 1-888-501-7330.
Hawaii Major Lines Licensed Insurance Agents are required to complete 24 credits of continuing education every 2 years prior to their license expiration date. Of the 24 Credits required, at least 3 credits must be done in the category of Rules/Ethics Training. The remaining requirements are “license type specific,” meaning Agents must take courses in the line of authority in which they are licensed and they are approved by the Hawaii Department of Insurance.
Major Lines licenses include:
Producers licensed in multiple major lines (Property and Life, for example) are only required to meet the same requirements as Producers with single lines of licensing. In other words, you only have to take 24 credit hours of CE, regardless of the number of lines of licensing you hold.
For a licensee authorized to sell lines of insurance for both life/accident and health or sickness and property/casualty; the total requisite number of credit hours is twenty-four hours, of which:
The priority list of excess ethics taken can be found here: HI CE Priority List
Agents must complete their CE Requirements prior to their license expiration date to be eligible to renew their license. License expiration dates occur on the last day of the agent’s birth month – every 2 years. It is highly recommended that agents complete their CE Requirements at least 15 days in advance of their license expiration date to ensure that their renewal application is made available.
Upon completion of all CE Requirements, licenses can be renewed online through NIPR.com or Sircon.com. The renewal fee is $100 total, regardless of the number of lines of licenses being renewed.
Licenses are eligible for renewal when:
There are special training requirements for Hawaii insurance agents who sell certain products. These courses count towards your CE Requirements.
Any Hawaii life insurance agent who sells, solicits or negotiates an annuity product must complete a one-time, 4-hour Annuity Best Interest Training Course prior to selling.
Hawaii insurance agents who sell Flood Insurance must complete a one-time, 3-hour Flood Training Course prior to selling.
Agents will not receive credit for the same course taken within the same renewal period.
Any credits earned in excess of the 24 credit requirements cannot be carried over to future renewal periods.
There are no grace periods or late renewals. Hawaii insurance agents who fail to meet their renewal requirements prior to their license expiration date will be considered lapsed and they are prohibited from transacting insurance business. Agents have up to 1 year to reinstate their license by completing all outstanding CE Requirements and paying a reinstatement penalty of $200 ($300 total). Agents who do not reinstate within 1 year from their license expiration date must relicense.
Agents requesting a reinstatement should do so by completing all outstanding CE Requirements and submitting their renewal application through NIPR.
