All of our Tennessee Insurance Continuing Education courses are delivered in electronic format and can be viewed and completed on any mobile device. This includes chapter quizzes and final exams which are scored immediately upon completion. Each chapter is followed by a short chapter quiz which must be passed with a score of 70% or better in order to proceed to the next chapter. Upon completion of all chapter quizzes, you will be presented with the Final Exam which requires a passing grade of 70%. All quizzes and the Final Exam can be taken as many times as necessary until you pass. You have up to one year from the course purchase date to complete your courses.

Upon successful passage of each Final Exam your credit hours earned will be reported directly to your State regulator. The date and time of completion of your course is based on the specific time zone in which you completed the course.

Successfully completing a course will earn you a Certificate of Completion. Certificates of completion are immediately available on the My Courses page. Simply locate the completed final exam and click on the certificate icon found near the right side of the page. Please check all the information displayed on your certificate for accuracy. Inaccuracies on your certificate could represent inaccuracies in your BetterCE profile which could lead to reporting delays. If you feel your certificate is inaccurate in any way, please contact the BetterCE support team at support@betterce.info or call us at 1-888-501-7330.

General Requirements

Major Lines licenses include:

  • Life
  • Accident and Sickness
  • Property
  • Casualty
  • Personal Lines

Agents licensed in multiple lines are only required to meet the same requirements as agents with single lines of licensing.

Tennessee Major Lines Licensed Insurance Agents are required to complete 24 credits of continuing education every 2 years prior to their license expiration date. Of the 24 Credits required, 3 credits must be done in the category of Ethics Training. The remaining requirements are “non-license type specific”: Agents can take courses in any topic as long as they are approved by the Tennessee Department of Insurance.

Agents licensed in multiple major lines (Property and Life, for example) are only required to meet the same requirements as Producers with single lines of licensing. In other words: the maximum number of credits you need to earn is 24 – regardless of how many license lines of authority you hold.

Agents must complete their CE Requirements prior to their license expiration date to be eligible to renew their license. Licenses can be renewed online through NIPR.com, or Sircon.com. The renewal
fee is $60 for any number of major-lines licenses being renewed.

Licenses are eligible for renewal when:

  1. all CE Requirements have been completed
  2. when the licensee is within 90 days of their license expiration date.

Flood Insurance

Tennessee insurance agents who sell Flood Insurance must complete a 1 – time, NFIP approved, 3 hour Flood Training Course.

Long Term Care

Agents must also complete ongoing training consisting of a 4 Hour Long Term Care training course every compliance period following.

CE Exemptions and Reductions

There are limited exemptions from CE Requirements for some Tennessee insurance agents.

Resident Agents are exempt if they have been continuously licensed since January 1, 1994, but they must still must renew their license every renewal period.

Course Repeat Restrictions

Agents will not receive credit for the same CE courses taken within the same renewal period.

Carryover Credits

Up to 12 credit hours earned in excess of the 24 credit hour requirement during the 2 year renewal period will carryover to the next compliance period.

Late Renewal and Reinstatements

There is no grace period or late renewal allowed for Tennessee insurance agents who fail to renew prior to their license expiration date. Licenses will be considered inactive and prohibited from conducting insurance business if their CE Requirements and Renewal Application are not completed on or before the license expiration date. Agents can reinstate their license for up to 1 year past the license expiration date. To do so, they must complete any outstanding CE requirements, and pay the renewal fee of $60, plus a fine of $60.

Agents who wish to late renew or reinstate within the 1 year period can do so using through State Based Systems, here: TN RENEWAL / REINSTATEMENT APP
