Georgia agency renewal dates have changed, and some agencies may need to take action sooner than expected. BetterCE has recently heard from Georgia clients who received notices that their agency licenses had been inactivated. The issue appears to stem from a legislative change enacted in May 2025 that changed when certain Georgia agency licenses must be renewed.
Because the implementation timeline depends on when an agency was originally licensed, it is important to check your renewal date now.
What Changed With Georgia Agency License Renewals?
Prior to 2026, Georgia agencies were required to renew their licenses by December 31. Under the new requirements, agency licenses will renew biennially by the last day of the month in which the agency was originally licensed.
The implementation date differs depending on the agency’s original license approval month:
- January through June: Agencies originally licensed during these months are not required to follow the new renewal schedule until 2027.
- July through December: Agencies originally licensed during these months must renew by the last day of their original license approval month in 2026.
For example, an agency originally licensed in August that previously expected a December 31, 2026, renewal deadline would instead need to renew by the last day of August 2026.

Check Your Georgia Agency License Status
If your agency was originally licensed between July and December, do not assume that your renewal deadline is still December 31.
The Georgia Department of Insurance provides an official Georgia Agency and License Renewals Notice that explains the changes and the applicable renewal dates.
Agencies can also check their license status and complete their renewal through Sircon’s Georgia Agent/Agency Renewal system. You will need to select Georgia and have your Agency License Number and Agency EIN available.
What Does the Georgia Renewal Notice Say?
The state’s notice outlines three important provisions:
- Agencies with a December 31, 2025, renewal date remain unchanged for that renewal cycle. After renewal, the next renewal date changes to the last day of the agency’s original license approval month in 2027.
- Beginning in January 2026, renewals transition to the last day of the agency’s original license approval month on a biennial basis.
- Licenses with a December 31, 2026, renewal date and an original approval month between January and June move to the applicable month in 2027. Those originally approved between July and December move to the applicable month in 2026.

Review Your Georgia Agency Renewal Date
If your agency was originally licensed between July and December, we recommend checking your license status and renewal deadline as soon as possible. The new schedule could mean your renewal is due several months earlier than you previously expected.
